School: Son of Masamune Juttetsu Naotsuna of Soshu den. Paper/Classification: NBTHK Hozon to "Den Sekishu Sadatsuna". Period: Nanbokucho (1336 - 1392). This is a rare piece that has been attributed to Sekishu Sadatsuna. The blade itself has been polished very nicely. His work is top class and his blades are in the same style of his father and Masamune's which is Soshu den. His father, Naotsuna was considered to be one of Masamune's Juttetsu. Though scholars may not have thought the relationship between Masamune and Naotsuna was that of a direct teacher/student relationship, the style of Soshu den is evident in his blades. There are a few kitae ware shown in the photos, but it does not hinder the value or beauty of the blade.
There is a hi on one side of the blade. This blade is placed in a good quality shirasaya and gold wrapped habaki.
