Rare Mounts Unsigned Koto Antique Japanese Katana Sword Fuyuhiro NBTHK Hozon C Late 1400s. This is a beautiful Koto Samurai Katana made by the well known sword maker Wakasa Fuyuhiro ca.Late 1400s to early 1500s (Muromachi era). The blade is 24 1/2 from kissaki to munamachi (Nagasa).
The tang is 6 1/2 and tsuka is 8 3/4 in length. The sword with Saya is 37 total length, and features a beautifully rare leather cord wrapped tsuka with an ornate dragon menuki.The habaki is upscale Shakudo with Gold gilded tsuba, fuchi, kojiri, and kashira. The Saya appears to be shark skin. The Sword comes with NBTHK Hozon paper attributing to the swords authenticity.
It comes with its sword bag as well. Please see pictures for condition of sword. It has minty polish with rare mounts. This blade was forged by Fuyuhiro in the late Muromachi period(450-500 years old). It is said that the first generation Fuyuhiro was the son of the third-gen Soshu Hirotsugu, one of the most well-known swordsmiths in the Soshu region(todays Kanagawa prefecture).The first-gen Fuyuhiro moved to Wakasa province(todays Fukui prefecture) after learning sword forging techniques/tradition from his master. According to historical documents, the swordsmiths name Fuyuhiro lasted 17 generations from the Muromachi period(1460-)to the Edo period(-1868).
During the Sengoku period(Warring state period), Fuyuhiro forged swords for high-class Samurai or feudal lords because of his popularity and the high demand for weapons.
